Online healthcare providers have exploded in popularity. It’s totally understandable.
Many people don’t want to wait weeks for a doctor’s appointment and then have to wait a seemingly endless time in the waiting and exam rooms.
I’m impatient and somewhat of a germaphobe, so online medical assistance for minor issues seems like a good idea.
So good, in fact, that I thought I would try it.
Online Healthcare Providers: Review
Last weekend, I searched for online healthcare providers and then contacted one. I submitted the required information about a weird (but tiny) place on my nose.
I won’t be too graphic in my description.
About ten years ago, I had cryotherapy twice to remove a precancerous lesion on my nose.
It went away, but a spot returned a couple of years ago. I bought over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide and used it until it fell off.
Fast forward to about a month ago. It was back again.
This time, I decided a doctor visit was in order. Problem: My derm passed away four years ago, and I never found another one.
It was at that point that I decided to contact an online derm.

The website had a gazillion reviews, most of them positive.
I was asked for personal information and an elaborate description of my issue. Then, I had to submit two pictures, one a close-up and one from about a foot away.
Then came the interesting part: payment.
How soon the patient wants a response determines the cost. For an eight hour or less turnaround, the cost is more than a 48-hour response time.
I chose the least expensive time, but received a response after just one day.
In the report, which is accessed through a code which is emailed to the patient, I was told that the weird place on my nose was not a precancerous lesion. (Hurray!)
I was told to watch it and note any changes, which could indicate that it had morphed into something more serious.
For now, I continue with the benzoyl peroxide and wait for it to fall off (again).
I would definitely use online healthcare providers again, so it’s a thumbs up from me.
In the meantime, I have pink eye. There’s always something, right?
