Have you heard of Skyr? Unless you frequent certain markets, you probably haven’t.

Skyr is a thick, protein-packed yogurt made in Iceland, where it’s been consumed for 1,000 years, according to product packaging.

Whole Foods Market in my area carries the strawberry, blueberry, and vanilla versions but, if you go to a market in Iceland, you will be amazed to see literally a wall of different flavors!  (This is only part of it, by the way.)

My husband, who is Icelandic, introduced me to this product before we were married; in 2008, when we travelled there, I actually saw the wall of different-flavored Skyr!

I was immediately drawn to the way the yogurt tasted (silky and pure) and how it kept me full for hours. That’s because it has 16 grams of protein; other yogurts contain far less than that.

Skyr also contains probiotics for digestive health, along with measurable amounts of calcium and riboflavin.

What I truly appreciate about this yogurt is that, while it’s not technically organic, the farming industry in Iceland is such that products there are more wholesome.

The air and water are cleaner, and farmers generally use fewer chemicals due to the climate.

Since I try to make healthy food choices most of the time, Skyr allows me to enjoy its rich, filling flavor alone or in a smoothie. For all these reasons, I can feel good about this product!
